Industrial Design Specialist
The Industrial Design Specialist works with cross functional teams to create drawing representations of new concepts or enhancements on existing products, machinery and plant layout. To develop innovative, ergonomic, user friendly designs that improves the function of the product, production lines and flow.
Contributes to design improvement beyond collecting data from team (demonstrates product potential) and improves upon design standards. Ensures considerations for safety, function, serviceability, budget, and production costs & methods are addressed.
Uses CAD system to enter the required data, such as precise measurements and commands, in order to generate construction 2d & 3d drawings, or digital images. Work can involve packaging design, improving industrial machinery, and facility modifications. Able to figure out how to best translate ideas onto paper/computer.
Supervises manufacturing efforts & installations. May review and supervise the work of other draftsmen. Escalates issues when designs do not work. Works with machine shops and / or engineering firms to maintain schedules, quality, cost reductions, and develops manufacturing protocols.
Working hours may flex to meet work demands, but this position will normally work 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Uses CAD to design new, redesign, modify or otherwise edit existing designs.
- Performs mathematical calculations necessary to complete design tasks.
- Checks final drawing on screen to verify completeness, clarity, and accuracy of drawing.
- Take place in specialist or multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Maintain, organized filing data base of CAD files keeping record of revision levels and approval status.
- Design development producing various design options on the screen or on hard copy, collaborating with technical professionals to resolve a design concept not yet completely defined.
- Other duties as assigned
What Mechanical CAD Design contributes to Cardinal Health
Mechanical CAD Design is responsible for working collaboratively with engineers and others to develop and qualify mechanical and electro-mechanical design solutions for medical product and equipment development projects or programs.
