What Machine Operation contributes to Cardinal Health

Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.

  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications
  • determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup
  • uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds
  • measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining
  • fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Accountabilities:

  • Observe all safety precautions and regulations at all times in all areas where duties are performed. Responsible for reporting all safety hazards and potential unsafe working conditions.
  • Understand and comply with all current plant policies and procedures.
  • Maintain responsibility and accountability for all machine performance and general maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot minor maintenance issues at assigned machines.
  • Procure necessary packaging materials, i.e. baling wire, shrink wrap.
  • Unload, tie off, weigh (if necessary), and safely store bales of waste material for recycling/reuse.
  • Clean equipment and work area daily.
  • Complete all paperwork in a neat, orderly, and timely manner.
  • Communicate with supervisor in order to maintain good lines of communication regarding equipment, job performance, safety, and operational needs.
  • Communicate with other shift supervisors and operators so that teamwork can be fostered and efforts can be coordinated to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Obtain and/or maintain current forklift operator license.
  • Complete all rework before shift change.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1-3 years related work experience and/or training preferred
